By the time Susan reached her early thirties, the call of westward expansion had drawn thousands across rivers, plains, and mountains. Among them was Susan, who in 1871, at the age of 32, stood in Leavenworth, Kansas, and married Lafayette Mundy. Leavenworth was a bustling town at the time—a major hub for settlers heading further west. Their journey eventually took them even further into the American West. By 1887, Susan gave birth to her son, Thaddeus Mundy, in Helena, Montana, a city born from the gold rush and still growing fast. Just over a decade later, in 1923, Susan passed away in Warm Springs, Deer Lodge County, Montana—a peaceful and reflective place. She was buried there, her journey ending not far from where she had raised her family and watched the frontier transform into settled towns and railroads.
